Castine Tour with Maine Woodland Owners

Madden Sustainable Forestry, in conjunction with Master Logger and Woodland Owners of Maine, hosted a tour in Castine to educate landowners about the logging process, the machinery used in logging, and various aspects of a logging operations.
Landowners had a chance to see the equipment as they never have before; hands on. Each piece was described in full detail as to it's role in the logging operation, it's impact (or lack thereof) on the Earth, and what happens to the wood after it is processed.

Derek’s trail machinery has totally changed my forest trails. I truly enjoy that people can easily walk, springs can now flow to the stream, and I can easily work on my pre-commercial thinning. Thank you Derek!!Pam Wells, Wells Forest
The event was attended by many who toured the property and watched a live demonstration of tree harvesting using the cut to length mechanical harvesting procedure. This event was unique in a way that it included Madden Sustainable Forestry, recipient of the Logger of the Year award; Pam Wells, recipient of the Maine Tree Farmer of the Year award; and Kirby Ellis, recipient of the Maine Forester of the Year award.
