About Us

Our Core Values

We Foster Education

For our employees and land owners alike. Every employee of Madden Sustainable Forestry Inc. has the latest training and certifications available for logging in Maine, setting the industry standard with each completed job. We also strive to educate the landowner on procedures and expectations related to a forest harvesting operation.

We Pursue Excellence

Simply put; we take pride in our work. Using the latest technology and training, we offer best experience possible for the landowner, following the best silviculture practices. We keep an open line of communication with you throughout the operation should you wish to voice your questions or concerns.

We Practice Honesty

Options and goals for your property are discussed at the beginning either over the phone or by a walk through with the landowner. Once a plan is established, a contract is written up to reflect these goals and the agreed stumpage pricing. Only then do we move the equipment in and begin the job. We’re always available if you have any questions.

We Love What We Do

Madden Sustainable Forestry is a fourth generation business with three of those four still in operation today. To say the least; logging is in our blood. Our employees are experienced members of the logging community with over 100 combined years experience in the field

About Our Process

Beginning the Process

  • 01

The landowner and the contractor will discuss the options and goals for their property. This is done either by phone or a walk through of the property to be harvested.

  • 02

A timber contract is formed between the landowner and the contractor. This contract will include goals for the property and stumpage prices. Stumpage prices are what the landowner receives for their timber and are usually measured by the ton or thousand board feet.

  • 03

With the contract signed, the timber harvesting operation can begin. The necessary equipment will be hauled into the site and work is started upon arrival.

Cut to Length

  • 01

A processor will enter the property and harvest trees, delimbing and cutting them to length in the woods.

  • 02

A forwarder will enter behind the processor, loading the timber and moving it to the landing.

  • 03

The forwarder piles the wood on the landing, separating by species, grade and/or market.

  • 04

A log truck will load wood from the landing and deliver to a local mill.

Tree Length

  • 01

A harvester – or feller buncher – will enter the property and harvest the trees, laying them down at full length.

  • 02

A skidder will enter behind the feller buncher and drag the trees out to the landing.

  • 03

A delimber will delimb and pile the tree length wood, separating by species, grade and/or market.

  • 04

A log truck will be loaded by crane and the wood will be delivered to a local mill.

Grinding / Mulching

  • 01

Walking Trails – Popular among private landowners. We can grind a trail leaving a much more pleasant experience while enjoying the forest.

  • 02

Food Plots – Grinding an area will get you one step closer to using that area that was once unfit for food growth.

  • 03

Fields – Combined with harvesting, we can turn previous tree growth into wide open spaces.

  • 04

Other Possibilities – Square up a field, clear the undergrowth around trees close to your home or further clean the grounds after a timber harvest.
